Renewing by enhancing what already exists: the new pool area of Hotel Renè
Renè Dolomites Boutique Hotel in Pozza di Fassa has long been a benchmark for high-quality Alpine hospitality. An elegant and distinctive property that combines architectural tradition, local materials, and refined aesthetics—an expression of the history of the Gabrieli family.
The symbolic heart of the hotel is the garden pool, enclosed within the iconic glass pyramid, a hallmark of the wellness area and in dialogue with the richly detailed façade. The need to expand the wellness experience with a new heated outdoor pool led to a measured and respectful intervention, designed to enhance the offer without altering the hotel’s identity.
THE PROJECT
The project stems from a bespoke approach, focused on enhancing what already existed while avoiding invasive demolitions. The new 12×6 m outdoor swimming pool in reinforced concrete was designed in continuity with the indoor pool, creating a single body of water connected through an underwater opening.
The glass pyramid, with its blue cladding inspired by late 19th-century Central European architecture, was preserved intact, maintaining its symbolic and visual value. Materials, geometries, and technical solutions engage in dialogue with the original aesthetics, now offering a seamless experience that guides guests from the interior to the exterior, all the way to the Dolomites panorama.

“Working on already defined structures with a strong identity is one of the most stimulating challenges of our work. Even when it is not about renewing an entire spa, but intervening in a targeted way on an element such as the pool, that is precisely where Sanae can make a difference. This project shows how interesting and distinctive it can be to read what already exists, respect it, and improve it through precise, efficient, and integrated technical solutions”.
Diego Gabrielli, CEO of Sanae
“We immediately appreciated the approach of Sanae and the local companies involved in the project: they responded to a specific need without proposing demolitions or invasive interventions. This is not a given way of working. The new pool expands the experience of our guests without distorting the hotel’s identity, enhancing what already worked and respecting the history of our property.”
